How do essential oils work on our bodies?
Essential oils penetrate the body in three ways:
Via smell - The oil enters [the limbic system] via the olfactory nerves in the nose that transmit odors to the brain and thereby affects bodily systems.
Via the skin - The oil penetrates the body via the pores of the skin, enters the bloodstream and lymphatic system and is thus carried to other organs in the body.
Via the digestive system - The essential oil passes through the digestive system and is absorbed into the bloodstream more slowly than by way of the skin. (Only specific oils with precise instructions may be used in this manner.)
